Open Source Infrastructure Research

I study the infrastructure gaps in scalability, inclusiveness, sustainability, and governance across open source ecosystems.

§01

Research Mission

Open source software has become the foundation of modern technology, yet many aspects of its infrastructure continue to evolve organically rather than by design. My research focuses on identifying recurring infrastructure gaps that affect the scalability, inclusiveness, sustainability, and governance of open source ecosystems.

Rather than proposing isolated tools, I study patterns across multiple projects to develop practical, evidence-based approaches that help maintainers, contributors, foundations, platform providers, and the broader open source community.

  1. Study real-world open source projects.
  2. Identify recurring infrastructure gaps.
  3. Analyze existing community practices.
  4. Develop practical reference implementations.
  5. Publish findings through articles, repositories, and community discussions.

Current Research

Active Research

Accessibility Infrastructure for Open Source

Exploring practical approaches that help projects make accessibility easier to adopt, maintain, and scale through reusable workflows, guidance, and supporting infrastructure.

Research Planning

AI Contribution Policies & Verification Signals

Studying how open source projects can communicate AI-assisted contribution expectations through portable, machine-readable policy definitions and contributor verification workflows.

Previous Research

Open Source Language Infrastructure

Research into localization workflows, internationalization governance, and the infrastructure needed to support multilingual open source communities.

This work resulted in publications examining language inclusion, maintainer workflows, and infrastructure gaps across multiple open source projects.
